All About Botox

At LCS Medical Spa, Botox is only performed by Dr. Melanie Carreon for over 14 years, since 2004, and only performed in our AAAHC Accredited Medical Facility for safety reasons.

Botox is a chemical that is injected into a person’s skin, and has the effect of clearing and smoothening wrinkles and frown lines. It comes from the neurotoxin Butolinum, which is among the strongest neurotoxins known to man.

How it Works

Botox blocks nerve impulses, which in turn cause the muscles to relax. After the treatment, the muscles are unable to contract, thus remaining smooth. Patients will be able to notice the results in as little as two days after the Botox has been administered. Botox is effective at keeping the wrinkles at bay for up to 4 months, after which the effects will begin to wear off. Most patients will go for more treatments as soon as they notice their wrinkles reappearing. After each treatment, the wrinkles will appear less severe because of the Botox’s lasting effect of completely relaxing the muscles.

Risks and Side Effects Associated With Botox

Like any other medical drug, Botox is not without its risks and side effects. Because of this, before any patient undergoes this treatment, it is important for them to be aware of some of the side effects they may experience. The side effects of Botox depend on the area in which it is administered. Botox’s side effects are under two categories; common and severe.

• Common side effects- These include, but are not limited to, facial pain, headache, chronic cough, swelling, sweating, fatigue, redness, sore throat, indigestion, weak muscles, increased sensitivity to light, dizziness and back pain.

• Severe side effects- If a patient experiences any of the following symptoms, they are advised to seek medical attention immediately. The symptoms include blood in urine, paralysis, difficulty in breathing, fainting, fever, irregular heartbeats, migraines, slurred speech, severe allergic reactions, bleeding at the injection site, drooping eyelids, and numbness. Additionally, the toxin botulinum that can be found in Botox can cause life-threatening food poisoning.

Considering the severity of some of the side effects associated with Botox, most patients may consider the option of natural alternatives such as facial acupuncture, natural topical treatments, and Natox. Facial acupuncture involves inserting needles at various points of the face to rejuvenate facial muscles, and improve blood circulation in the area. As a result, skin pores are tightened and facial sagging is reduced.

Natural topical treatments are equally effective as Botox at keeping wrinkles at bay. For instance, castor oil can be applied to the skin daily to fill in fine lines. A lot of fruits are known to have antioxidant properties which slow down the skin ageing process. Rubbing fresh grape, apple or pineapple juice onto facial skin daily will combat wrinkles, and give the skin a youthful appearance.

Natox is an organic product that is similar to Botox, but does not involve surgery or needles. Natox is arguably the best natural alternative to Botox because of the numerous advantages it has over it. For instance, Natox is made of 100% pure organic ingredients, has no side effects, and is painless. Natox is clinically proven to improve skin hydration, tighten pores, reduce frown lines and wrinkles, soften skin, and increase skin elasticity.
